Matthew

The writer of Matthew was Levi, also called Matthew. Before his call to follow Jesus, he was a Publican ( a Jew who collected taxes for the Roman government ) as a tax collector he was despised by his countrymen.

The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus Christ as the King and traces his genealogy to king David and at times refers to Christ as the son of David. Matthew also, can be viewed as the Gospel of the kingdom; the expressions, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven can be found often.

Mark

Mark is not mentioned in the Gospels but is mentioned in the book of Acts; as the Mark, that accompanied Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. The Gospel of Mark presents Jesus Christ as the servant of God, doing mighty deeds and works. Very few of our Lords parables and discourses are mentioned in this Gospel.

John is the writer of this Gospel as well as 1,2, and 3rd. John. It was to John that our Lord Jesus on the cross commended his mother. This Gospel from the very start stresses the Deity of Jesus and uses the terms Son and Son of God quite often.
